Outreach Kits

The following is a list of all the Educational Outreach Kits available for presentation and rental.

The History of Mississauga's First Nation
Grade 6
This educational kit has been designed to assist teachers in delivering the Grade Six Social Studies curriculum units on Heritage and Citizenship. The kit is intended to accompany the class work on Aboriginal Peoples and European Explorers, with a strong local native history emphasis. The format of the kit provides comprehensive hands-on activities and presenter-class interaction.

Pioneer Life in Toronto Township
Grade 3
This educational kit has been designed to assist the teachers in delivering the Grade Three Social Studies curriculum. The kit is intended to accompany the information the teacher gives to the class with a focus on Mississauga pioneers. Included with the presentation is an integrated social studies unit plan. Each activity had a detailed lesson plan and all the handouts that the teacher needs to complete the activities are included. Along with the curriculum links, the kit has been created to emphasize the areas of numeracy, literacy and technology.

The Rebellion of 1837 - in progress
Grade 7 & 8
This kit is still in progress. It focuses on the Rebellion of 1837 and its effects on local histoy.

Industrial History
Grade 8
This kit covers the local economic system in Mississauga starting with the fur trade and extending right up to the business parks and shopping malls of today. Slides of early Mississauga businesses and businessmen will tell the story of a strong city. Also, several businesses which were unique to Mississauga or significant on a Canadian or world wide scale will further further student's understanding of their city's industrial role.

Early Communities

These kits focus on the early villages and towns which subsequently became part of the city of Mississauga. Currently available are kits on Cooksville/Dixie, Erindale, Port Credit, and Streetsville. Planned for the future are three kits on the communities of Malton, Meadowvale Village, and Clarkson. These kits are excellent for teaching students about the towns they live in, the development of early society, and provide an excellent resource for teaching local human geography.
