Philatelic Reflections of Local History
When I was a schoolboy stamp collecting was a very popular hobby. We collected anything and everything. In philatelic language, we collected The World. Nowadays, the hobby is not quite as popular, particularly among younger people, and very few collect The World. The number of stamp issues proliferated dramatically during the 1960s and 1970s, to the point that collectors could not, in fact many, myself included, lost the desire, – to keep up. Many people felt “used,” in the sense that stamp issuing authorities deliberately targeted the collector, instead of producing stamps for postal use.
