Heritage Mississauga presents “From Powderhorn to Plow: United Empire Loyalists and the Soldier-Settlers of Mississauga”

The exhibit features artefacts from:

Toronto Branch of the United Empire Loyalists of Canada
Costume Branch of the United Empire Loyalists of Canada
Black Creek Pioneer Village
Mississauga Heritage Foundation

The Province of Ontario was created as a haven for United Empire Loyalists fleeing from the Revolutionary War in the United States. Ontario’s motto is: “Ut incepit Fidelis sic permanent”, or “Loyal She Began, Loyal She Remains.” But who were the Loyalists? And what impact did their arrival have in the historical annals of the place we call home today? Many of our earliest settlers, those that helped to carve our modern city from the pioneer landscape, were Loyalists. We invite you visit the exhibit and come to the special presentation by John Warburton to learn more about these ordinary men and women who helped to lay the foundation of the city, the province and the nation we live in today.

“From Powderhorn to Plow” is the third of four planned exhibits for 2005 in Heritage Mississauga’s new home, the Robinson-Adamson Grange. The exhibit is open from September 1st, 2005 until November 11, 2005. The exhibit is at “The Grange” / Robinson-Adamson House, located at 1921 Dundas Street West, is free of charge and is open from Monday to Friday, 9-5, so please feel free to drop by and see us.

In connection with the exhibit, Heritage Mississauga presents a special presentation by John Warburton on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, 7:00pm at “The Grange”. Tickets are $5.
